Scuba Diving Medical (Recreational PADI only)

Scuba Diving Medical (Recreational PADI only).

£80

A scuba diving medical is an assessment to make sure you are fit to take part in recreational scuba diving and meet the medical requirements set by PADI. It looks at your general health and any medical conditions that could affect your safety while diving. You may need a medical before starting a course, depending on your answers to the PADI medical questionnaire, or if your health has changed since you last completed one. We’ll talk everything through with you and make the process as straightforward as possible.

You require this medical if any of the following apply

You may need a scuba diving medical if you:

  • Are starting a recreational PADI scuba diving course and your medical questionnaire indicates that a medical assessment is required

  • Have answered “Yes” to one or more of the questions on the PADI Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire

  • Have a medical condition that may affect your ability to dive safely

  • Have experienced a change in your health that may affect your fitness to dive

  • Have been advised by your PADI instructor that you need medical clearance before diving

What to expect during the medical

  • Reviewing your completed PADI Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire

  • Discussing your medical history and any current health conditions

  • Asking about any medication you take or previous medical issues relevant to diving

  • Carrying out a clinical assessment appropriate to your individual circumstances

  • Completing the relevant PADI medical paperwork

Appointment duration

Allow approximately 30 minutes for your appointment.

What to bring

Please complete your PADI Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire before your appointment and bring it with you along with your summary care record from your GP.

Where to attend

In clinic only.

Certificate issued

If you are medically approved to dive, we’ll complete the PADI Diver Medical Physician’s Evaluation Form, confirming that you are approved to participate in recreational scuba diving. We’ll complete the relevant paperwork during your appointment and return it to you at the end of the appointment, so you can provide it to your PADI instructor or dive centre.

Certificate validity period

There isn’t a standard PADI validity period that applies to every diver. If your health changes, you should seek medical advice before diving, and your dive centre or instructor may also have specific requirements.
