Skin Health Surveillance

Skin health surveillance helps employers protect employees who regularly work with substances that can cause skin problems. It helps identify early signs of occupational skin disease, supporting compliance, risk reduction and effective control of exposure. Following assessment, the employee receives their individual health surveillance outcome, while the employer receives the relevant employer outcome and documentation. All reports are securely stored, with all communication managed through our Orchid Live portal.

You require this medical if any of the following apply

Skin health surveillance is for employers whose employees regularly work with substances or materials that can cause skin irritation, dermatitis or other occupational skin problems.

It is particularly relevant to industries such as construction, manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, cleaning, catering and hairdressing, where employees may have regular contact with chemicals, oils, solvents, wet work or other skin irritants.

Employers can use the service to monitor employee skin health, identify problems early and support effective workplace risk controls.

The process

Step 1 - Arrange health surveillance

The employer provides details of the workforce and relevant workplace exposures. We agree the appropriate arrangements for the employees requiring skin health surveillance.

Step 2 - Employee questionnaire and consent

The employee receives their initial questionnaire and consent form through our occupational health Orchid Live portal before their assessment.

Step 3 - Skin health assessment

The employee completes their skin health surveillance assessment, including a review of their work activities, exposure and any skin symptoms or concerns.

Step 4 - Outcomes and records

The employee receives their individual health surveillance outcome, while the employer receives the relevant employer outcome and documentation. Reports are securely stored and can be accessed through the employer’s Orchid Live dashboard.

COMPLIANCE AND LEGISLATION

Under Regulation 11 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), employers must provide suitable health surveillance where employees are exposed to hazardous substances and the conditions for health surveillance are met. This can include workers at risk of occupational dermatitis from substances that may cause skin irritation or allergic skin reactions. Skin health surveillance helps employers identify early health effects and take appropriate action to control workplace risks.
